A Hearthstone company - serving Bethlehem, PA

Meet the Team - Hearthstone Chimney Co.

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Meet the Bethlehem Team Behind Hearthstone Chimney Co.

Our Bethlehem crew is the same group you’ll see year after year. We’re the ones climbing ladders on Colonial Avenue in January, crawling flues in Hanover Township during shoulder season, and explaining camera footage to homeowners who just want to know if their chimney is safe to use. What ties us together isn’t a handbook. It’s that none of us want to come back and fix something we should have gotten right the first time. Done right - and we stand behind it.

Our People

Russell Haines, Owner

I’ve been in chimneys since 1984, which means I’ve seen what happens when shortcuts catch up to people. Started this company because I got tired of watching homeowners pay twice for the same job. These days I split my time between running calls in Bethlehem, Allentown, and the surrounding Lehigh Valley towns, and making sure our 90-Day Done Right Promise actually means something when someone picks up the phone. I live in the area, my kids went to school here, and I plan to be fixing chimneys here long enough to work on houses twice. Outside of work, I restore vintage hand tools and I’m slowly losing a battle with a 1968 Ford pickup.

Mike D., Lead Technician

Mike’s been with us eleven years, and he’s the one we send when a chimney system has been patched three times by three different companies and nobody can figure out why it still leaks. He’s CSIA-certified and holds a Pennsylvania home improvement contractor registration, but what matters more is that he’ll spend twenty minutes on a roof in February until he finds the actual entry point, not the obvious one. He grew up in Fountain Hill and still lives there with his wife and two dogs that he insists are well-behaved. His specialty is masonry evaluation and he has a particular patience for historic flue systems, which in Bethlehem means he’s busy most of the year.

Teresa R., Senior Installer

Teresa handles our liner installations, cap and crown replacements, and any job that involves working with the professional-grade materials we spec from DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Olympia Chimney. She’s been in the trade eight years, came to us from a commercial HVAC background, and she approaches every install like she’s going to have to explain it to an engineer and a grandmother at the same time. Which she often does. She keeps a notebook of every Gelco and Famco cap she’s installed by neighborhood, partly for warranty tracking and partly because she likes knowing how the work holds up over time. She lives in Bethlehem’s South Side and volunteers with the neighborhood association’s housing committee.

Darnell J., Service Coordinator

Darnell is the live voice you get when you call (610) 595-5754 at 10 PM on a Saturday or 7 AM on a Tuesday. He’s been with Hearthstone four years, knows the Lehigh Valley routing like he designed the streets himself, and he’s the reason we can say most jobs get completed in a single visit. He schedules, he confirms, he flags accessibility issues before the truck leaves the shop. He grew up in Easton, worked dispatch for a towing company before this, and he’ll tell you straight if we can get someone out tomorrow or if it’s next Wednesday. No false urgency, no phantom availability. He’s also the one who follows up after every job to make sure the Done Right Promise never needs to be invoked.

Alex P., Apprentice Technician

Alex is in his second year with us, working toward CSIA certification while he learns the trade from Mike and Teresa. He’s the one carrying the camera equipment, running the inspection footage, and asking the questions that remind the rest of us not to assume. He came to us from a general construction background and wanted something more specialized, more accountable. He’s from Lower Saucon Township and he’s already developed a reputation for spotting cracked flue tiles that other eyes miss, probably because he’s still looking at everything twice. He’ll be running his own inspections by next season.

One Standard, Every Job

The Bethlehem crew works under the same K.E.Y.S. code as every Hearthstone technician across Pennsylvania: Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it. That means the $89 Seasonal Tune-Up gets the same attention as a full liner replacement. It means we use Copperfield and Field Controls components even when a cheaper substitute would pass inspection. It means the photos from your Level-2 camera inspection go on a drive you can review, with a plain-English verdict attached, not a folder of jargon meant to confuse you into a sale. We’ve been in local communities for over 42 years because we act like we’ll be here for thirty more. The 90-Day Done Right Promise isn’t marketing. It’s how we know we did the job properly before we drive away.
