A Hearthstone company - serving Bethlehem, PA

Famco Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Famco Chimney Cap & Crown in Bethlehem: What to Know First

We provide independent Famco chimney cap and crown service in Bethlehem, from the South Side’s rowhouse stacks to the older homes up near the historic Hill-to-Hill district. Most Famco cap replacements and crown repairs are completed in a single visit, and we’ll give you an upfront price before any work starts. If it needs doing, we’ll tell you. If it doesn’t, we’ll tell you that too. This page is for Famco owners who want a square deal, a technician who knows the difference between a Famco single-flue and a multi-flue model, and a company that’s been answering calls with a live person for over 42 years. How Famco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Famco single-flue galvanized caps (Series 75 and 100) - rust-through at the seams. Bethlehem’s freeze-thaw cycles and the wet snow that sits on caps through March open hairline seams at the corner welds. Water gets in, freezes, and pushes the seam apart. We see this on roofs from West Broad Street to the north side. We replace with a Famco-compatible stainless cap or a Gelco equivalent, depending on flue size and your budget. The new cap gets a bead of high-temp sealant at the seams, not just a factory weld.
  • Famco multi-flue caps (Series 200 and 300) - sagging lid from undersized internal bracing. The 200-series lids use lighter-gauge cross-bracing that fatigues after 8-12 years of snow load. The lid bows, water pools, and the mesh screen rusts from the inside out. We install a reinforced replacement with heavier bracing, or we can fabricate a custom cap if your flue spacing is non-standard. We measure on-site; no guessing from old part numbers.
  • Famco wind-directional caps - seized rotation bearings. The Series WD caps have a ball-bearing race that gums up with creosote and Bethlehem’s fine limestone dust. The cap stops rotating, which means it stops drafting properly. We disassemble, clean the race, repack with high-temp grease, and test rotation under draft. If the bearing race is pitted, we source a replacement cap; the bearings are not a separate part from Famco.
  • Famco concrete crowns - hairline cracking from thermal shock. Famco doesn’t pour crowns, but many Bethlehem homes have Famco caps sitting on poured crowns that were done cheap at original construction. The dark concrete absorbs summer heat, then a cold rain hits it, and the surface layer cracks. We repair minor cracks with CrownSeal or HeatShield crown coating. For crowns with spalling or exposed rebar, we pour a new crown with proper overhang and drip edge.
  • Famco draft-inducing caps - broken turbine vanes. The Series TDI caps use aluminum turbine blades that can fatigue at the hub. A broken vane throws the cap out of balance, and you’ll hear it from inside the house on a windy day. We inspect with a camera from below to confirm the damage, then replace with a new Famco TDI or a Gelco Vacu-Stack if you prefer a passive alternative with fewer moving parts.

Our Famco Chimney Cap & Crown Process

  1. 1
Call and schedule. A live person answers, 24 hours a day. We book a window that works for you. No app, no callback queue.
  2. 2
Level-2 camera inspection. Our technician arrives in uniform, background-checked, and runs a camera up the flue before touching the cap. You see the photos. We explain what we found in plain English.
  3. 3
Parts decision. If your Famco model is still in production, we’ll quote OEM. If it’s discontinued (some 1990s Series 100 variants are), we source a quality aftermarket equivalent from Gelco or fabricate a custom fit. We tell you the price difference and let you decide.
  4. 4
The repair. Most cap replacements and crown coatings are done in one visit. Crown rebuilds take two if the weather won’t let the concrete cure properly. We don’t rush concrete.
  5. 5
Test and document. We run the camera again after the work. You get photos of the finished job and a written report. The 90-Day Done Right Promise applies in writing, no arguing.
  6. 6
Cleanup and close. We haul away the old cap. The number on the estimate is the number on the invoice.

What Famco Chimney Cap & Crown Costs in Bethlehem

Service Typical Range
Famco single-flue cap replacement (standard size) $280 - $420
Famco multi-flue cap replacement (Series 200/300) $480 - $750
Custom fabricated cap (non-standard flue spacing) $650 - $950
Crown crack repair with CrownSeal coating $340 - $520
Full crown removal and repour $1,200 - $2,100
Wind-directional cap bearing service $180 - $260

What moves the price: flue height above the crown, accessibility (steep roofs cost more in labor), whether the crown underneath is sound enough to support a new cap, and whether we need to custom-fabricate. We do not recommend work without camera evidence you can see. Call (610) 595-5754 for a free estimate - the number we give you is the number you’ll pay.

Why Bethlehem Homeowners Call Hearthstone Chimney Co. for Famco Work

We’ve been on Bethlehem roofs since 1984. Russell Haines and our crew know the difference between a Famco Series 75 and a Series 100 without climbing down to check the stamp. We carry DuraFlex, HeatShield, Gelco, and Famco-compatible parts on the truck, so most jobs finish in one visit. The 90-Day Done Right Promise is in writing: if it’s not right, we come back, no paperwork, no arguing. Photos you can see, a plain-English verdict, and a live person on the phone every hour of every day. That’s the Keystone Standard.
